With plans already underway for this year’s 34th annual Lincoln Christmas Market the team are reflecting on an award winning year in 2015.
The popular market held on the first weekend in December was crowned Event of the Year at the National Outdoor Events Association (NOEA) annual awards ceremony in Bath. The team behind the market also took the title of Event Organiser of the Year.
Organised by City of Lincoln Council, the market attracts around 250,000 visitors every year and is the oldest traditional Christmas market in the UK – having begun in 1982 with just 11 stalls.There are now around 200 stalls located against the unrivalled backdrop of the city’s magnificent cathedral and castle, and a recent survey estimated the four day event brings around £10 million into the local economy.
Claire McDowall, Principal Events and Culture Officer at the council, said: “We always aim to provide an enjoyable and authentic atmosphere, with high quality stalls selling everything from seasonal food and drink to handmade gifts and decorations, as well as a variety of entertainment. We also listen to visitor feedback every year so we continue to improve the experience.
“We’re thrilled to have the market recognised in the NOEA awards. It’s testament to the hard work put in by the team and also to all of our visitors and residents, who help to make the event such a success, as well as our stallholders.
