Meet some of Lincoln & Lincolnshire’s venue experts, friendly faces highlighting their local knowledge and fantastic event experiences.

Name: Anita Holdich

Position: Cathedral Centre Manager

Length of employment: 8 Years

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is organising special events for customers, for example a wedding, anniversary or special birthday. I enjoy the bespoke service we offer, going that extra mile and seeing the function through to the end, making sure that it is everything they expected and more.

What does your job involve?

My job as Cathedral Centre Manager involves meeting clients, arranging events, hiring out rooms or the Centre as a whole. We are a very small team and work closely with our clients to ensure their needs are met, at the same time as recognising the importance of maintaining the fabric of the 13th century building.

What is your favourite thing about Lincolnshire?

I love the historic buildings and Bailgate shopping area with its cobbled streets. It’s great to work in this popular tourist area and I get to meet people from all over the country. Being a Lincolnshire yellowbelly myself and being brought up on a small holding, I also like the farming side of the county. The Lincolnshire Agricultural Show is a great day out for all the family.

If you had 24 hours to show your best friend Lincolnshire, what would you do?

If I had 24 hours to show my best friend Lincolnshire I would start with a trip to the East Coast, maybe Mablethorpe, driving across the Lincolnshire Wolds. We would take a walk on the beach and sit people-watching while eating fish and chips. I would then head back to Lincoln and visit the Castle and Cathedral, purchasing a joint ticket ready for a return visit! We would then stroll around the small independent shops on Steep Hill and the Bailgate. The evening would be spent having a lovely meal and a glass of wine in my favourite restaurant, Café Zoot. Then, to finish off, we would have an overnight stay at the Old Palace Hotel and plan my friends’ next visit as there is so much more to do and see.

What is in store for your venue over the next year?

We have a lot in store for the Centre over the next year. As well as training courses and meetings which we are generally used for, we have champagne tastings and wedding receptions coming up. We are very excited to be taking part in the Bailgate Wedding Fayre in October where people can visit us and hear about what we have to offer for their big day. We want to make any couple’s day as special as it can be by hosting their wedding reception at the Centre. We have also just put together some new menus for our Christmas bookings. We hope that these will attract parties for the festive season.

What is the best feedback that you have received from a delegate/booking?

I arranged a wedding reception for a lovely couple 5 years ago. They had a fantastic day and couldn’t thank us enough. Their guests were all in awe of the Cathedral Centre and the secret garden. The couple sent us a great card with a picture of themselves on it saying ‘Thank you for being a part of our special day’. Every year since then, they have been back to spend their anniversary drinking champagne in our garden. To me, that is the best feedback.
