Meet some of Lincoln & Lincolnshire’s venue experts, friendly faces highlighting their local knowledge and fantastic event experiences.

Name: Andrew Taylor

Position: Food and Beverage Manager

Length of employment: 13 years

What is the best part of your job?

Quite simply - delighting the guests. Any job in the service industry is all about the guests that come through our door, with everyone's purse strings tightening it is imperative that when people are spending their hard earned wages with us we leave them feeling happy and to see this happening is by far and away the best part of the job.

What does your job involve?

I oversee all aspects of food and beverage service for the hotel. Everything from breakfast to dinner and conferences to banqueting, I ensure the smooth running of the shifts. It is my responsibility to ensure staffing and stock is readily available and that from the moment a guest walks through the door to the moment they leave they are looked after.

What is your favourite thing about Lincolnshire?

I love the history and heritage that Lincolnshire has to offer, having been born and raised in Lincoln I am immensely proud of where I come from. I particularly like, when travelling home, seeing Lincoln Cathedral greeting you on the horizon giving that warm feeling of home.

If you had 24 hours to show your best friend Lincolnshire, what would you do?

Personally I would stay in Lincoln. I would start at the iconic Lincoln Cathedral, once the tallest building in the world, showing them the intricate architecture and, of course, the famous Lincoln Imp. From there I would walk across Castle Square to Lincoln Castle, entering through the East Gate we would take in the Crown Court before seeing all that the Castle has to offer, including one of only four surviving originals of Magna Carta. Leaving through the West Gate I would visit the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, full of history about Lincolnshire as a military and agricultural centre. I would then take a trip down Rasen Lane to walk through Newport Arch, the oldest arch still in use, and visit the Medieval Bishops’ Palace before descending Steep Hill – 2011’s Britain's Best Place, once at the bottom I would head to The Collection and the Usher Art Gallery. As the day draws on I would head down the Brayford to soak up the continental atmosphere with a spot of dinner and a night cap at the Holiday Inn!

What is in store for your venue over the next year?

This year we plan on going from strength to strength, having recently submitted planning permission for an extension and in the process of revamping our external areas we look forward to the hotel continuing to thrive.

What is the best feedback that you have received from a delegate/booking?

The best feedback we get is when people return, we have guests that have been coming to us for several years knowing that every time they come we will deliver a stay to be proud of.
